All indications point to a concession between President Obama and congressional Republicans that will extend the Bush tax cuts for everyone, even the wealthiest Americans, for at least another two years. Obama needs to stand strong on his previous resolve to only extend tax breaks for married couples making under $250,000 and individuals making under $200,000. In fact, he would be wise to lower these figures even more, since $200,000 a year is hardly struggling.

The Environmental Protection Agency recently proposed that its Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standard be broadened to include heavy-duty trucks. Until now, CAFE has only applied to passenger vehicles under 8,500 pounds. One Jewish student was reportedly injured and one Muslim student was arrested in an incident in Spaights Plaza last Thursday during a protest against Jewish-sponsored events on the UWM campus. The event reportedly took a turn for the worse when Muslim students confronted Jewish students about Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians.
