Volleyball tops cross-town rival Marquette

Felsing and Gabrielsen lead the way

It was an intense night Wednesday as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee volleyball team took on Marquette University in a cross-town clash that the Panthers closed out in four games; 30-24, 26-30, 30-28, 30-21.

Leanne Felsing tallied her 12th triple-double of the season with 14 kills, 27 assists and 14 digs and now has 19 career triple-doubles. Jamie Gabrielsen led the Panthers (19-2) with 20 kills and eight digs on the night, reaching double figures for the 20th time this season, while Natalie Schmitting contributed with 10 kills.

Bye week should boost Pack

Bucks may be on right track

Last season for the Milwaukee Bucks was filled with lots of disappointing nights and led to their worst season in a decade. The Bucks finished with a record of 28-54.

The bad record was due in large part to injuries to key players like Michael Redd, Mo Williams, Bobby Simmons, Andrew Bogut and Charlie Villanueva. Those five players combined for a total of 180 games missed with Simmons lead the way with missing all 82 games.

Post-season baseball is thrilling

With the World Series upon the sports world and therefore the baseball playoffs reaching an end, some interesting facts and statistics stick out.

First, the Colorado Rockies, a team Major League Baseball told not to even print playoff tickets, enters the World Series undefeated in playoff games this year. Sporting a 7-0 record against two of the best teams in the National League, they remain a scary opponent for their American League opponent.

Bulls legit? Or Bull... crap?

Isn’t technology great? First, we gained the ability to send e-mails and communicate with anyone in any part of the world instantaneously. Next, we were able to access the Internet from our mobile phones all over the country. Now, once again with the help of computers, South Florida has a very legitimate shot at an NCAA title! You’ve gotta love technology.

I’m referring, of course, to college football’s BCS rankings, which are revealed for the first time each season following the eighth week of play. To refresh those who might have forgotten about everybody’s favorite ranking system, BCS standings are compiled by combining the results of the USA Today Poll, the Harris Poll, and some wacky computer ranking thingy that spits out numbers that may or may not have any relevance at all.
