Age difference, not a big deal

Who says it’s wrong?

By Nic Werner

Does age really matter? I’m sure you’ve heard the question a million times or have even asked yourself that question many times over. Should age matter?

When I was seven, my brother, four years older than me, and his friends seemed incredibly old. When I was 15, I developed a slight crush on a 22-year-old, but decided that seven years was a bit too big of a difference.

Drinking rules inconsistent

By Mary Franzen

Parking ticket at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee: $20. Possession of drug paraphernalia: $315. Smoke detector tampering: $500.

The look on my face when I heard that anyone caught ages 16 or younger drinking at the dorms would get a $30 fine…priceless.

Parents’ day at Jesus Camp

By Joshua McCracken

If George Orwell were to rise from his grave in the United States today, I’m sure that following the initial shock of resurrection, he would be oddly gratified to find that his dismal vision of the future has come true, in a sense, in the freest nation in the world.

After class, you find a $30 citation on your car because you parked in an RPP area. Now, I can't say this has happened to me, because I take the bus since my tuition automatically pays for a UPASS. But, let's not go there just yet. The new rules for the Resident Preferred Parking program allow only residents to park on certain sides of certain streets between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. A free permit is limited to two per household.

Rudy Giuliani: The right man for the job

By Geoff Loper

In 1993, New York City was declared by the FBI as one of the most dangerous places to live in the United States, averaging nearly 2,000 murders a year and more than 11,000 other major crimes per week.

Then the city of New York, where Democrats outnumber Republicans nearly 5-to-1, elected Rudy Giuliani as their new mayor.

Burkee and Walz: Alternative for reform

By Chris Walker

Those seeking an alternative to Jim Sensenbrenner as congressional representative in Wisconsin’s 5th Congressional District, listen up: Democrat or Republican, you have a choice.

This election year, a dual and bipartisan effort to unseat the incumbent (who has held the seat since 1979), is taking place in our own backyard.
