Free speech threatened at UWM
By Chris Walker
Free speech and press freedom are two ideals that every American citizen should be proud to have constitutionally protected. Yet the Student Association (SA) and its members here at UWM don’t seem to agree.
The SA recently decided that the UWM Leader deserved yet another fund cut. Earlier this semester, lacking sufficient funding the Leader was forced to become an internet-exclusive publication. Unlike the Post, the Leader relies upon segregated fees to run. Removal of more fees can mean a potential continuation of the publication being produced solely online.

All religions oppose terrorism
Robert Fisk is one of the leading journalists in the world who has covered the Middle East for the last 30 years. He’s written for the New York Times as well as the British newspaper, the Independent. He received the “International Journalist of the Year” award seven times, and twice won “Reporter of the Year.” For his latest book he researched the last 80 years of history in the Middle East and said, “I found myself amazed at how much restraint Muslims had shown towards the West.”
Today in America, the mainstream media and culture denounce Muslims in a style reminiscent of Nazi propagandists. On April 30, David Horowitz came to speak at UWM. He accused Islam of being a dangerous religion that is associated with terrorism.
But, globally Muslims are not the aggressors; they are the victims. In Iraq, they are being assaulted by an invasion that the US launched against them.

Would Jesus be an American soldier?
Christianity is supposed to be revolutionary. Vladimir Lenin, a hardcore atheist, still acknowledged early Christianity had a “democratic revolutionary spirit.” If the Latin American church was revolutionary in the ‘80s, practicing liberation ideology and working to end the oppression of neo-liberalism, the Christian Right is counter-revolutionary for supporting the status quo in a society based on exploitation.
If we compare viewpoints of the Christian Right to scripture, we will find they don’t agree. Let us consider some “what would Jesus do” questions.

Nuclear family in nuclear winter
For the past few years, we have been inundated with people screaming about the deterioration of the family. Suddenly, people loving each other just isn’t enough; we now have all sorts of rules that we have to follow.
First of all, the two consenting adults must be of opposite genders, which in essence nullifies the whole consenting adults theme. Second, any and all children that are conceived must be carried to term, regardless of the health risks posed to the mother or to the child. And my absolute favorite, number three: You must be a good, God-fearing Christian.

Last Minute Travel Advice
As we rap up the semester and graduation comes near for some - like me - the thoughts of traveling to a distant place are always on my mind. It helps me navigate through my six business group papers and presentations. Thank you very much school of business, I’m 100 percent certain I do have the ability to work in groups NOW!
But getting back to traveling to far off, magical, wonderful places…for those of you who won’t be traveling this summer, I highly suggest going to the library and borrowing magazines or movies about traveling. They have some great travel series out, just ask your local librarians to see which travel series they carry.

Broadcast Yourself.
My friend and I are in a battle. The other day he came strolling into the living room and announced before another friend and me that porn is the driving force for the internet, or that people who like porn made the internet what it is today: a sleek, fast connection, with streaming video and the capability to support hundreds of thousands of images.
Now, I will admit that the announcement was not entirely arbitrary – the conversation my friend and I were having was pertinent to the subject – but still, it made me angry. Pornography is pornography. It exists in degrees varying from ‘artful’ to “Hustler” and beyond. Yet to think of it existing beyond its primary and frankly, obvious function, and actually accomplishing anything worthwhile seemed to me (initially) more than just a little far fetched.

Op/Ed - Rude students ruin Informative Discussion
It is a basic manner to listen when people talk. It is also a well-known fact that some people do not have manners. What is not so well known is that it is those without manners who are the greatest danger to freedom of speech on this campus.
Last Wednesday the Conservative Union, a registered student group on campus who has hosted many speakers in the past, hosted their final speaker of this academic year, David Horowitz. What promised to be an informative lecture and a nice eye-opener to students on campus was turned into a display of disrespect for both Mr. Horowitz and the Conservative Union and their right to free speech. As a member of the Conservative Union I am appalled and frustrated by the way the event was hijacked and ruined by members of the Muslim Student Association and other leftist organizations
