Long to the rescue with walk-off single

Panthers split doubleheader

By Mike Kennedy

After weather forced the series to be played in Chicago, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team split two games against Cleveland St. in a doubleheader on Saturday.

In the first game, the Panthers (8-21, 3-5 Horizon) fell to a large deficit early after the Vikings (12-13, 4-4 Horizon) had a five run second inning. A homerun, two doubles and a single put Cleveland St. up 5-0 after two innings and the Panthers wouldn’t earn their first run until the fourth inning after CSU had extended its lead, 6-0.

By Shannon Menefee

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women’s tennis finished in fourth place in the Horizon League after a 7-0 defeat to Cleveland St. Saturday afternoon.

Only securing one win in three doubles matches and getting swept in all singles matches, the Panthers remain in good standing before the end of the season.

Down to the wire doubleheader

By Tim Prahl

For senior Nick Wichser, the game can’t get much easier than this.

The fifth-year left fielder out of Waukesha West continued his torrid hitting by reaching safely for the eighteenth and nineteenth straight times in Wednesday night’s double-header which pitted the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee against non-conference foe Chicago State.

Bonecrushers digging own grave

By John Raschig

Even before the Milwaukee Bonecrushers won a game, head coach and former Green Bay Packer great Gilbert Brown resigned. General manager Chris Kokalis and both the offensive and defensive coordinators quit as well.

All cited irreconcilable differences with the ownership group that consists of A. A’ron Williams, III, Shaun Totulis and John Burns. Rumors swirled about some of the players leaving as well, but at this point, nothing has been confirmed.

Past, present and future

By Brett Winkler

If I were an eight-year-old girl, and possibly a cheerleader (insert “What do you mean, if you were a girl?” joke here), one of my favorite chants would be “I’ll give you a dollar, and you can keep the change, because all I really want is a quarterback.”

Unfortunately for the world of competitive cheering, I am not an eight-year-old girl, and even if I were, that wouldn’t be a chant I would get too use often – at least not when I was cheering for the Packers.

Roster shakedown

By Jimmy Lemke

Going into the offseason, the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee men’s basketball team has looked to rebuild a roster that was stuck with departures and injuries at the end of the campaign.

Coach Rob Jeter and the Panthers have to replace two of their top three scorers from this past season in Marcus Skinner and Paige Paulsen. Paulsen, a deft three-point shooter and a tireless worker, will most likely pick up a job overseas after graduation. Skinner, who went from an end-of-the-bench player to arguably the team’s MVP, injured his ankle in the final week of the regular season and wasn’t at 100 percent for the team’s first-round tournament loss to Loyola.

You gotta have Hart

By Ken Ryan

For years we’ve heard about the homegrown Milwaukee Brewers, a bunch of guys drafted and brought up through the minor leagues together.

Infielders Prince Fielder, J.J. Hardy, Rickie Weeks and Ryan Braun drew the bulk of the attention. Bill Hall and Tony Gwynn Jr. (based on name alone) garnered more attention on the periphery as well.

Tailgating like a pro

By Nathan Anthony

To some, Brewer games are about two things: baseball and tailgating. To newcomers in Wisconsin, this ritualistic event can seem barbaric and crude, but to real fans, tailgating is just another part of the game. So how do you have the perfect tailgating experience? Just follow these easy dos and don’ts and you’ll be tailgating like a pro.

1) Always pre-cook your brats. Rookies to the tailgating experience will just buy the beer brats at the grocery store and throw them raw on the grill. It’s Busch League and you hate to see it, but it happens. Seasoned veteran to tailgating John Raschig intelligently commands, “Boil your brats in beer!” Never a truer word has been spoken. To get that perfect brat, follow the beer-brat ratio of 1.5 cans of beer to one package of brats, and don’t forget the onion – sliced, not chopped.

Best picks for the upcoming NBA draft lottery

By Steve Manske

As the season comes to an end, it’s time for the Milwaukee Bucks to look to the future. The NBA draft lottery that takes place in May, which will determine what pick the Bucks will land, will be important in terms of who they may acquire who will turn this team around.

The way the Bucks have been playing for the past few years, every player up for the draft would be able to help, but the problem is that the Bucks can only have one. Here are the top five players who would look good in a Bucks uniform next season.
