Workouts for the new generation
Being a small fish in a big city means getting what you want, whenever you want. I can get fried doughnuts on North Avenue at 2 a.m. or my guilty pleasure (cheese fries) from Oakland Gyros at 3 a.m. When it comes to eating out on the East Side, I can stuff my face at any hour of the day, but I couldn’t find a fitness facility to work off the junk food in my trunk at the same convenience.
Remake done right
The past few decades have been a strange time for westerns. Most of the successful ones, such as “Unforgiven,” “Open Range” and “The Proposition” have strayed from the classic western formula in favor of a much more critical look at the era.
Divine Dining
There’s a new girl in town and guess what…she can cook. Her name is Patty and she is not your ordinary girl-next-door. Patty entices the hungry burger-eater with her pin-up girl good looks and modern flair. She’ll serve you breakfast, vegetarian entrees, shakes, fries, and of course, juicy burgers.
By “Pong” it began
This semester I am exploring a controversial topic: Why do video games get shafted as a respected entertainment form? They have been around for over 35 years. When are people going to stop thinking of them as a children’s medium?
Remake done wrong
The only way I could possibly begin this review is by expressing how much I love the original “Halloween.” John Carpenter took a concept that seemed to be as simple as could be, and turned it into one of the greatest horror films of all time. From the memorable music, to the lighting, to the fact that Michael Myers simply existed as “The Shape,” the film holds up over the past three decades like few do.
Another cult classic in the making
Ken Marino has been one of the staples of American comedy for over a decade. His work on the short-lived television series “The State,” along with his role in the cult classic “Wet Hot American Summer” has made him a fixture among those who prefer their comedy with a bit of an edge.
From freshman to fifth year
Welcome to freshmen yea-….wait a second. This isn’t freshmen year. Where the hell did all the time go? If you’re not careful as an underclassman, the college years can easily slip past you in the blink of an eye. Well, either the blink of an eye or a flurry of studying, drinking and eating.
The on-screen women we love (and their clothes)
Since the beginning of film and television, women have been defined by the clothing they wore. Marilyn Monroe did not become a sex icon by dressing conservatively. Similarly, Grace Kelley did not become a fashion icon by wearing everyday, ordinary clothing. Fashion enthusiasts celebrate Kelley for her beautiful wardrobe and natural elegance.
Fall has big shoes to fill in entertainment
Summer always confirms the one constant that life offers: Time flies. It is a cliché in every sense of the word, but is there any other statement one can say about anything that rings so true? Perhaps summer always seems to disappear before our eyes because there is always so much going on; both in the world and in our lives - perhaps that is why late winter always seems to crawl by.
Controlling the humor:
I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, that one of the single funniest pieces of art to come along over the last 15 years is a videogame.
I want my sex without meat
Ever since a New Zealand newspaper published an article declaring a new sexual preference, vegansexuals, this new-age term refers to vegans who will only have sexual intercourse with other vegans.
