Gender vs. race
An unimportant argument

It’s astonishing that this debate is even being brought up. Yet recently, and with all the attention of the presidential election focused on Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, the media in America has posed the following question: Is race or is gender more important in selecting the next presidential nominee?
Barack Obama, an African-American, would be the first non-white nominee of either of the two major parties – and the first non-white president should he win the election in November. This would be a huge milestone, over 50 years after the start of the Civil Rights Movement, indicative of a shift in attitudes regarding race in America.

Martin Luther King, Jr. took action because he was sincere, in sharp contrast to the all-too-common passive citizen. As Che Guevara wrote, “At the risk of seeming ridiculous, let me say that the true revolutionary is guided by great feelings of love.”

2007 was a rocky year for Britney Spears. From shaving her head, to attacking a car with an umbrella, to a performance at the MTV Video Music Awards that featured the pop star in a drugged state, Spears was in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Her former bodyguard even went on to testify in court that Spears was a habitual drug user and a danger to her children. Now just three weeks into the New Year, Spears has caused enough drama to convince people that she has completely lost control and become a danger to herself.

…And now, brought back by popular dimensia… GRAND FUNK RAILROAD!
You laugh, but I’m geared up for a reunion of this great band, going on tour again with the likes of The Knack and a reformed Milli Vanilli. I can’t be the only one who has noticed that a lot of these beloved old bands are getting back together now as they creep over the threshold of assisted-walking age.

Boy, what a year for politics it has been, and it’s only January!
We’ve seen upsets, surprises, as well as expectations fulfilled. Early in January, Barack Obama defeated long-time front-runner Hillary Clinton in the Iowa caucuses.
