Men’s soccer season comes to a close
OT stunner dashes Panther’s hopes
By Tim Prahl
It took 94 minutes of soccer at the Horizon League Conference Tournament to determine the game’s outcome, and unfortunately for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men’s soccer team, they came up on the short end of a 1-0 overtime thriller against the University of Illinois at Chicago.
With the stakes as high as they have been all season for both teams, UIC freshman forward Kevin Stoll was able to net the game-winner just four minutes into overtime. The goal came when the Flames played a corner kick back to the wing, lofted the ball into the box and had it redirected right to the foot of Stoll.

Story of a Panther, part 2
When we last left Joe Allen, he was stationed in Korea in the U.S. Army. While hoops dreams danced in his head, the United States was attacked halfway around the world. Joe woke up on Sept. 11, 2001 to find the world wasn’t the same one he had left the night before.

UWM Mini-Baja racing team takes 2nd at Stout
It was a cold morning at the motocross track in Arkansas, Wis. that was to host the 2007 UW-Stout mini-baja invite. There was even patchy snow on some of the fields in the surrounding area.
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee mini-baja team, a little known entity that resides in EMS E388, has been preparing for months for the first event of the season. Even though it was only a regional competition, some of the most prestigious schools of the Midwest were represented, including the University of Wisconsin, the University of Iowa (Hawkeyes) and Michigan Tech.

Jeter settling on rotation
After dismissing Avery Smith from the team, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men’s basketball head coach Rob Jeter had to tweak his starting lineup. The Panthers have many new acquisitions that made the process of determining a starting five and choosing which players would come off the bench to spark the team a tough task.
Jeter has found a starting five that is working early on in the season. He has a solid frontcourt consisting of Oklahoma State transfer Torre Johnson, Paige Paulsen and freshman big man Tim Flowers.

Young Panther squad takes regular season title once again
Coming into the 2007 season there were a lot of goals for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women’s soccer team. On Monday night they learned that one of those goals was not going to be realized. Although the Panthers will miss out on the NCAA tournament this season, they have a lot to be proud of.
During the regular season the Panther squad was able to accomplish many of their individual and team goals. When talking about individuals on such a great “team” you have to talk goalkeeping for the 2007 season.

Earl-Yi Surprise
First off, I think it’s been pretty well established by now that Milwaukee Bucks’ rookie Yi Jianlian’s first name (or last name?) is pronounced like the letter “e.” That being said, headlines that read “Yi Harmony” followed by subheads like “Rook-Yi L-Yi-ds Milwauk-Yi to Victor-Yi” are starting to get a little bit old and confusing by now. The worst such headline I’ve come across read “Earl-Yi Surprise.”
Give me a break.

Should They Stay or Should They Go—Part 2
The main concern of the Milwaukee Brewers should remain fixing up a bullpen that cost the team numerous victories in the second half, especially in the final weeks after the implosion of Derrick “TurnBlow.”
But some question marks still linger on the offensive side of the ball, especially in left field.

Women should be wary
Rarely do teams have to fight their schedule as opposed to the teams on the schedule, but in the case of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women’s basketball team, they really do have to fight the schedule. Let’s just hope the team doesn’t get too rusty in the last part of November because of the “Rockies Effect.”
The Colorado Rockies waited 9 days between winning the division championship and starting the World Series. In case you missed it, prior to the fall classic the Rockies swept their way through October, winning 7 straight playoff games to make it to the World Series, where they were promptly dominated and swept on, right over Fenway’s Green Monster

A season to forget?
It was going to be a season to remember. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee had two teams sitting with number one seeds and the third with a number two seed going into the Horizon League Tournaments, but none of them came out on top.
