Bend it like Beckham

By Nathan Anthony

In a summer wrought with a previously called “unbeatable” records broken, dog fights, steroids (again), and a wrestler killing his family and himself, the sports world was concentrating on one positive thing if only for a month or so: The Los Angeles Galaxy.

Battle of the nicknames

By John Raschig

On June 1 this season, the Milwaukee Brewers, a team without a playoff appearance in 25 years, was 31-24 and led the Central Division by 6 ½ games over the injury-ridden defending champion St. Louis Cardinals and vastly overpaid Chicago C.U.B.S (Completely Useless by September).

Cruel, cruel summer

By Brett Winkler

With a few exceptions, professional sports seem to take a vacation from the national spotlight during the June through August months. SportsCenter is typically dominated by repetitive replays of home runs and the occasional soccer or WNBA highlight. The summer of 2007, to put it kindly, was a little more eventful.
