Missing more than home

Men’s soccer loses away from Engelmann for sixth time

The struggles for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men’s soccer team continues to mount away from Engelmann Field after the Panthers were defeated 1-0 at Florida International down in Miami last weekend.

The loss drops Milwaukee (3-6-1) to a miserable 0-6-1 record on the road, its only good result coming against Wisconsin where they tied the Badgers 2-2. The defeat also makes the Panthers 1-5 in games decided by one goal.

Women keep pouring on the shutouts

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women’s soccer team continued its impressive play this season, defeating South Dakota State University 1-0 Sept. 24.

The story in this game was sophomore goalkeeper Erin Kane’s 19th career shutout, which ties her for the school record. Kane’s accomplished this feat in just her 29th career game and it puts her alongside former Panther keepers Kerri St. Aubin (2000-04) and Kathy Hoverman (1995-98) in the record books.

Second volleyballer earns player of the week honors

After University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women’s volleyball teammate Leanne Felsing dug and set her way into Offensive Player of the Week earlier this month, Melissa David clawed her path to the same honor last week.

David, a senior outside hitter from Savoy, Ill., earned the award by hammering 32 kills in two matches against Youngstown State and Cleveland State, both members of the highly competitive Horizon League.

With the assertion of three programs making routine trips to the postseason, it is only natural for the fans of each school to beg for a series against each of the other squads.

After season, questions remain

The 2006 Milwaukee Brewers season has come to an end.

What once began as a promising campaign, highlighted by a 5-0 start, took a gradual fall into disappointment. Marred by injuries and an inexplicit inability to win on the road, Milwaukee has almost taken a step backwards in trying to get to the next level.
