Recovering from a crushing defeat can be a long and troublesome road for many sports teams. A squad gets demolished, its timing is knocked off, and it may take an entire season to rebound.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men’s cross country team took second at its first invitational at Valparaiso, Ind., on Sept. 8.

The Packers played — and lost to — the Saints this weekend, I know, but I unfortunately missed large chunks of the more recent game. The reason for my absence from my usual front-row seat at The Gasthaus was that I was too busy hugging the toilet from the vomit-inducing loss to the Bears a week earlier.

After blowing their season-opener with a zero-point performance, the Packers signed Koren Robinson, who “hasn’t blown a zero in years.”

The goal of the 2006 Milwaukee Brewers was to improve upon last year’s number of wins, and in the process contend for a wild card berth into the playoffs. Since this is a goal that is no longer attainable, some skeptics wonder what’s left to play for.
