UWM loses with roster devoid of Paulsen, Anderson

With his team playing short-handed, freshman Roman Gentry took over for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men“s basketball team.

The 6-foot-4-inch guard was one rebound shy of recording a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing nine rebounds in the Panthers“ 72-59 loss to the University of Illinois-Chicago Flames Feb. 21.

Women 2nd, men 3rd at swimming, diving championships

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women“s swimming & diving team finished second, and the men finished third, at this year's Horizon League Championships in the University of Illinois-Chicago Natatorium.

The Panther women got things going Wednesday by setting a school record in the 200-meter freestyle relay, and then took two of the three top spots in the three-meter diving event.

Interim coach stealing the show

U.S. soccer president Sunil Gulati is in a pickle.

Interim head coach Bob Bradley wasn“t supposed to be leading the U.S. national team to two straight victories. Bradley was only there to head a coach-less squad until Gulati could land a high-profile head coach to take over the team for good.

Death from behind the arc

Thursday night at the Klotsche Center, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers women's basketball team was victim to almost unheard of perimeter shooting as the Butler Bulldogs shot 15-of-27 (55.6 percent) from beyond-the-arc to win 74-59.

The Panthers could have overtaken Butler for third in the Horizon League standings and continue to have control of their own destiny, which would have given them home-court edge in the quaterfinals and semifinals of the fast-approaching conference tournament.

Hogs, weather too much for Panthers

After two postponements between the Universities of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Arkansas, the baseball series finally got underway with a double header on Sunday, Feb. 18.

Freezing weather and snow seemed a bit out of character for Arkansas weather, but it gave no edge to the Panthers baseball team (0-3) as they lost three games in two days to the Razorbacks (7-2).

Bucks quiet at trade deadline

Not surprisingly, Thursday“s 2 p.m. NBA trade deadline came and went for the Milwaukee Bucks without any further roster tweaking.

The Bucks are still recovering from a myriad of injuries suffered during a disappointing season and they are hopeful that the key players returning from injury will provide enough of a spark to get them to the playoffs.
