Women claim second in Husky Invitational

Team fell to defending champs in first game of tourney

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women’s soccer team claimed second place in the Husky Invitational hosted by the University of Washington Sept. 3 by handing the host Huskies their first loss of the season, scoring two late goals.

Sophomores Beth Steuer and Bailey Briggs each tallied goals against the Huskies late in the second half. Steuer buried a 10-yard blast into the back of the net for her first collegiate goal. Briggs notched the insurance goal in the 74th minute off of a rebound shot to put the nail into the coffin.

Felsing named player of the week

Being the leader of a contending volleyball team is a pretty good job. People look up to you, rarely do you ride the bench in games and everyone knows that you are the cat's pajamas.

So when junior Leanne Felsing was named Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week, an already large pile of success was given a nice addition of street credibility.

Offense the reason for Brewers’ slide

It’s been a rough few weeks for the Milwaukee Brewers, as their road woes continue. After sweeping the Colorado Rockies way back in the Aug. 22-24 series at Miller Park, which pulled them within three games of a wild card playoff birth, the team has struggled mightily.

It started with a four-game series against a hot Marlins team fighting for a playoff spot of their own.

Green Bay cuts more than minimum

The NFL’s final cut-down day requires each team to trim its roster to 53 players. Ted Thompson and the Green Bay Packers couldn’t seem to get rid of enough players.

As always, the list of cuts includes a plethora of recognizable names mixed in with guys nobody has ever heard of. You might know a few of the following ex-Packers.
