Groceries at your door

A hassle-free way to stock your fridge

Matt Imbruglia realized that getting groceries is far from convenient for many people residing on or close to campus, and he decided to do something about it.

Imbruglia, 20, a UWM sophomore who lives in Sandburg Hall, started UW-M Grocery Getters, a grocery delivery service for UWM students, this summer. His goal: to make grocery shopping easier for those who do not have cars, don’t like the going to grocery stores or are just plain lazy.

Herbicides could cure obscure diseases

By following the enzymatic activities of a process that breaks down tyrosine, Graham Moran could help provide a path for the development of inhibitors of several diseases.

Moran, an associate professor in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, is working on “4-Hydroxyphenylphyruvate Dioxygenase,” a project that was approved for funding through the Research Growth Initiative. The study looks at the connections between the enzyme and its role as a catalyzing agent in breaking down tyrosine.

Why taken is attractive — or not

No matter how much we may hate the idea, we all tend to judge a book by its cover. If you are a sighted person, you will judge based on superficial aspects of other people.

One of the most ridiculous things that we single people do is judge someone by the person he or she is dating. For example, if I see a guy that I think is attractive and he is with an apparently intelligent, attractive, confident woman, I will find him more attractive (although my personal morals prevent me from doing anything about it).

Fashion fads we’d rather forget

We all have photos of ourselves back in grade school or high school that we have needed to hide or burn because our fashion sense was brutally embarrassing. In fact, members of our generation often wore several items that are now considered fashion faux pas in one outfit. Now is the time to rehash some of these fashion fads we pretend we did not follow.

Roommate etiquette

My neighbor arrived at her college dorm freshman year to find the entire room decorated in Disney theme, complete with a Lion King bedspread for each of them. A childhood friend of mine claims her roommate’s boyfriend moved into their dorm two days after school started and stayed for over three months.

We’ve all heard the roommate horror stories: the overly promiscuous, the religious fanatics, the kleptomaniacs and the sleepwalkers.
