Green Bay women topple Milwaukee again

Saturday“s match-up at the Klotsche Center between the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay was a clash of streaks.

The visiting women Phoenix, ranked 24 in the AP poll, was riding a 15-game winning streak. The host Panthers, meanwhile, had a 12-game home winning streak of their own to protect. Something had to give.

It“s still a rocky road

Poor shooting and too many turnovers doomed the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men“s basketball team Jan. 29 in a 76-50 loss to Wright State University at the Nutter Center.

WSU“s DaShaun Wood led all scorers with 20 points, followed by teammates Todd Brown and Drew Burleson, who scored 17 and 15, respectively.

Basketball still not ready for deep run

After two successive victories over the incumbent leaders in the Horizon League, spirits were flying high.

It was a great week for Panther basketball, as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee quickly pinned rival University of Illinois-Chicago with a record-setting first half, and then carried the momentum into an afternoon triumph over then first-place Wright State.

It seems like good old-fashioned weight room fanatics just aren“t cutting it for some and something has to speed up the process of getting some chiseled guns.

The other day I was watching E! or Discovery or some amazing channel like Animal Planet and a show came on that I had to watch. It was unbelievably captivating.

Defenseman Jimmy Conrad scored the game-winning goal in the 53rd minute as the United States national soccer team defeated bitter rival Mexico 2-0 in an international match on Feb. 7 in Phoenix, Ariz.

The U.S. extended its home unbeaten streak against Mexico to eight games (7-0-1), scoring 13 goals to Mexico“s zero during that span.

A whole new team

Baseball season is just around the corner and no one is more aware of that than new University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers Head Coach Scott Doffek, who will be leading the Panthers after 12 years of being an assistant to Jerry Augustine.

In the Horizon League coaches poll, which includes six coaches, the 2006 league runner-up Panthers, 32-25 a season ago, were picked to finish third in 2007.

He“s coming back

For the third straight year, Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has played the waiting game to decide if he would return to Titletown.

His decision process has become an annual event in Wisconsin. By judging the time frame that he took to make the decision this time around as compared to the previous two off-seasons, this may have been his easiest decision.
