I resolve to be done with it

Welcome back everyone! How was your break? Did you eat and drink too much? Did you get some much-needed rest? How’s your New Year’s resolution coming?
Oh yeah, resolutions. By this point in January, many people have already abandoned their hope for a new start. All of the promises to exercise, eat right and learn French are lying broken and battered next to the fully functioning fast food, sleeping in and watching TV. Americans are not well known for being motivated, but wouldn’t you think that someone would keep up his or her resolution at least until St. Patrick’s Day?

Remove, don’t reinforce
President Bush is not thinking clearly or, at the very least, he is formulating ideas four years later than he should be. His latest attempt at being a “wartime president” — his so-called “surge” (a nicer way of saying “escalation”) — was seriously needed years ago, but denied by the president due to his unforgiving stubbornness.
At this point, a surge of 20,000 troops will do little good regarding what is needed in Iraq. What exactly is needed in Iraq? Responsibility of the Iraqi citizens themselves.

Show pride through attendance
I am a second generation alumnus of UWM. My connection with the university is a deep one, and one that has deepened with every passing year.
As a proud alumnus, I have a strong desire for UWM to reach ever greater heights in all areas.

The neighbors around the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee have something huge to start complaining about in 2007.
It's not the fact that in 2006, Milwaukee saw 103 murders.

History repeats itself … again
All across America, the black community remains profoundly aggrieved by the explication enunciated by Michael Richards. While it may be hard to find anyone in the country who didn’t find Richards’s comments obnoxious, racism remains very much alive in our culture.
Although many often choose to presume that race doesn’t matter in our society, racial tension and division increases exponentially year after year.

There is no clever or interesting way to open this, since none but those who share in my addiction will agree with me.
I can’t speak for the rest of you, but I’m sick of the frostbite, the freezing winds blowing smoke back into my mouth, mingling with the smoky chemicals and forcing the combination back in until I feel sick.
