Throw ’em in there
UWM freshmen need playing time

By no means can a men’s basketball season be “over” before a team’s conference schedule begins. Nevertheless, going into the Horizon League already six games below .500 does not give anyone a reason to be optimistic about the rest of the year.
While the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s chances to go dancing again this season are close to nil, this is the perfect time to take care of something that could not be handled during a conference tournament run.

Slipped at the summit
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men’s basketball team definitely did not want to start the conference season out like this.
The Panthers (2-9 overall, 0-1 Horizon League) lost at home, 68-65, to Youngstown State (4-6, 1-1) after a very poor performance that saw Milwaukee take 77 shots and shoot just 34 percent from field.

Defense shuts down Air Force
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women’s basketball head coach Sandy Botham earned her 91st win as the Panthers flew past the Air Force Academy Falcons Dec. 7 at the Klotsche Center, 65-53.
The Panthers (4-6) bounced back from two straight losses to hand the Falcons (3-5) their fifth loss.

For McCarthy, it may not be fun
There’s a widely known moniker that fans of professional football use when it comes to the three letters representing Sunday’s best. With recent rule changes that limit on-field celebrations by players, some have re-named it the No Fun League.
While that may sometimes be the case, the oldest and most known alteration is a phrase coined by former Atlanta Falcon head coach Jerry Glanville.
