It’s tournament time

Litzau’s crew reaches mountaintop

For the first time since 2002, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women’s volleyball team will be dancing into the NCAA Tournament.

Monica Ferguson compiled a collegiate-best 17 kills and Melissa David added 13, as the Panthers swept the University of Illinois-Chicago, 30-24, 30-23, 30-22, to claim the Horizon League Tournament title.

New building, same result

For a fourth consecutive game, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men’s basketball team found itself on the wrong side of the scoreboard, losing 69-58 Sunday, Nov. 19, at Northern Iowa.

In the first men’s basketball game ever played at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the home team took the lead early and never looked back.

Mad-town beat-down

The University of Wisconsin dominated from start to finish in taking down the Panthers, 78-45 in a women’s basketball contest.

Give thanks for progress

At least we can say that they’re getting better.

Though it’s hard to say that the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men’s basketball team posting a 1-4 record going into Thanksgiving is a good thing, there are positive points you can take out of the opening of the non-conference schedule.

The greatest game of the greatest rivalry

Being the most anticipated game of the year, in arguably the most intense rivalry in any college sport, No. 2 Michigan at No. 1 Ohio State ended up being as great of a game as most would have expected, except that most people thought it would be a lower scoring game.

This would be the first time that the teams were ranked one and two in the country while playing each other in the 103-game history of the rivalry.

Injuries slowing Bucks’ season

Before the NBA season started, some people thought the Milwaukee Bucks had a chance to make a run in the playoffs. Many predicted them to have 40 to 45 wins this year and some thought they had one of the most talented starting fives in the Eastern Conference.

Now that we are two weeks into the season, many people are changing their minds.

Thompson deserves his due

When Ted Thompson was hired to take over the general manager reins for GM/head coach Mike Sherman in January 2005, he was faced with a daunting task.

Thompson came to a fork in the road from the second he laid foot on 1265 Lombardi Ave. His choice was to either put off the rebuilding period by further decimating the salary cap as his predecessor Sherman began to do or to begin rebuilding the club with younger players and let higher paid players hit the road and hope his team can remain competitive.
