I recently had a horrific experience in the Union. Walking past the Terrace Café, I thought to myself, “Soup sounds good.”

As I read the board listing the specials and soups for that day, I froze. Then I started having flashbacks to the first President Bush, when it was the vice president who was the literary ignoramus. There it was, in neon marker: “Soups: Vegetable & Potatoe Chowder”

Men and their biological clocks

Men have been known to be resistant to commitment and have referred to marriage as the “M” word. Recently the tables seem to have turned, making men the ones who are in a hurry to find lasting commitment.

When did this happen? A few of my girlfriends and I have encountered this cultural phenomenon repeatedly, which convinces us that men who have grown biological clocks have become the norm.

Dorm patrol

Students who have trouble taking care of their own responsibilities could learn a thing or two from Rebecca Riegert, who takes care of dozens of students on a daily basis.

Riegert, a 19 year-old education major at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, is the resident assistant (RA) for the third and forth floors of Sandburg Hall South Tower.

A portrait of a filmmaker:

Anyone can make a film. If you choose subjects you care about, the artistic product will follow, said film student Alexander Boguslavsky.

Boguslavsky will share his artistic gifts at the Milwaukee International Film Festival on Oct. 30, with his short film “My Little Philosopher.” In the film, he walks through the woods with his 5-year-old daughter as she answers his questions and gives observations. She talks about her dreams and holds a leaf up to observe its beauty.
