Redefining ‘racist’

Very few things in this world make me angrier than racism. One thing that is almost on par with racism is accusing someone of being racist without knowing the person.
Some circles are calling President Bush a racist because of the federal government's slow response to Hurricane Katrina. I am being called a racist because of a recent article I wrote about American Indian mascots and an article about the need to implement compulsory service in our country.

Evolution from our former selves
Someone called me a “townie” in class a few weeks ago. I was not sure if I should be offended or not.
Yes, I grew up in the 53211 zip code. My formative years were spent with Milwaukee as my playground. My friends and I would take the bus to Rochambo and spend our afternoons lunching at Beans and Barley. I would not have wanted it any other way.

When shock tactics blur free speech
In Milwaukee, or any large city for that matter, occasionally you’ll run into a religious zealot or two. Sometimes they’re in groups, waving large banners with their message spread across them. Sometimes it’s just one individual shouting the “word of God” through a megaphone at passersby.
For the most part, their acts are innocent enough. Usually if they are broadcasting their opinions, they do it in a general way, not targeting any one person, which I can deal with.

Global warming … on Mars?
Images were released in mid-September that showed global warming has significantly altered the surface of Mars. Parts of the polar caps of Mars are eroding at an exceptionally fast rate due to a warmer climate.
There are no definite answers as to why this is happening.

Adhering to my moral standards
It is my firm belief that Jesus and the Bible both promote to love your brother and neighbor as “Jesus loves the church,” and we do not believe “The Christian Response to Homosexuality” went against that idea or belief system at all.
