Without coach, club football team still soars
When the Milwaukee Panther football team took the field Sunday at 12:15 p.m. against Lakeland College, they were without Nate Harker, their leader and head coach, who was on his way back from a wedding in Colorado. The Panthers responded by annihilating the Muskies’ in the first half, outscoring them 20-6.
The first half was a show, starting off with an interception by safety LaTroy Austin only two minutes into the first quarter. The Panthers, who were unable to convert that turnover into points, stopped Lakeland from gaining a first down on the ensuing drive. When UWM got the ball back, quarterback Chris Kafarakis led a touchdown drive that was capped off by Kafarakis’ own running touchdown off a quarterback draw.

Volleyball team wins fourth consecutive match
Four wins in a row was the wish of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee volleyball team when they faced Horizon League rivals Cleveland State and Youngstown State Friday and Saturday at the Klotsche Center.
Their wish was granted as the sweep moved the Panthers up to second in the league standings with a 4-2 mark in league play and 11-7 overall.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men’s soccer team recorded shutout victories against Wisconsin, Wright State and Butler this week.

Women’s soccer team remains unbeaten in conference play
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women’s soccer team is still undefeated in conference play this season thanks to a 1-1 tie against rival Wright State Raiders Sunday at Engelmann Field.
The Panthers, whose lone goal was scored by sophomore Amanda Winn, came early in the second half, but that was all UWM could collect against the Raider defense.

Strong No. 1 performances not good enough in tennis loss
Despite successful performances by Margie Van Lieshout and Samantha Drews, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women’s tennis team dropped the overall game to UW-Whitewater, 7-2, Saturday afternoon at Whitewater.
Van Lieshout, UWM’s No. 1 singles player, looked strong in her 6-3, 7-5 victory over Whitewater’s Nicole Stamm. Van Lieshout continued her dominance when she and Drews teamed up to defeat the team of Stamm and Jessie Farrar 8-3 in doubles play.
