Panthers looked for strong finish in baseball

Season-ending sweep assured second-place league ranking

The spring semester finished with exams in mid May, but the season for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's baseball team was still in the thick of a race to the College World Series.

Going into the final series of the regular season against Butler, the Panthers needed to sweep a series of the Bulldogs to ensure the second seeding in the Horizon League Tournament.

Ivory Coast, head-butt the stories of the World Cup

For one whole month, a cease-fire was called. A bloody civil war, stopped in its tracks. No, an agreement for a truce was not met between opposing sides. It was a game that halted the dispute.

The African nation known as the Ivory Coast participated in its first ever World Cup this summer and single-handedly united a country, producing a sense of patriotism that was so desperately needed. Their battle on the field for soccer supremacy may not have solved the civil strife, but for just a short time, the country was at peace.
