Commissioner sets dates for student elections

SA seeks to avoid repeat of last year

In a change from previous years, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Independent Election Commissioner set the dates of the Student Association elections for late April.

For the past two years, elections have been held during the first two weeks of April. The 2006 elections are set for April 26 and 27.

Plan would add colorful plants, remove litter from campus

In the next 18 months, a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee campus-wide beautification initiative will arise, with a mixture of colorful new plants from one end of the campus to the other, a botanical motif in front of the Business Administration Building and an innovative attempt to reduce litter on campus.

Italian professor translates for sluggers

When Larry Baldassaro is at his everyday job at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he’s a professor of Italian and the director of the Honors College.

But recently, Baldassaro served as an interpreter for the Italian baseball team that participated in the World Baseball Classic.

Student by day, DJ by night

While most students serve coffee and wait tables to pay for their education, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Senior Tim Zick, known as DJ Kidcutup, dishes out hot music with his partner Why B at the award-winning No Request Friday’s hip-hop night.

This Friday, March 31, will be bittersweet though, as the pair plan to end the popular night at the B-Side, on its two year anniversary.

SA chooses 4 to help hire vice chancellor

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Student Association recently appointed four members to the Search and Screen Committee to find a permanent vice chancellor of the Division of Student Affairs.

The SA formed the committee to aid in the fulfillment of Chancellor Carlos Santiago’s request to fill the position by the start of the fall semester.

Campus Police Report

Theft

Two 18-year-old female students reported that clothing, underwear, makeup and bus passes were stolen from their dorm room in the North Tower of Sandburg Hall on March 13 at 5:56 p.m. The items were valued at $395, of which $271 worth was recovered.
