‘Residential Preferred Parking’ bill could remove street-parking spots

Klotsche Center would add those lost; status quo remains

Resident-parking only signs may appear near the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the coming months, cutting the number of commuter-available parking slots by over 700.

In an effort spearheaded by the East Side Transportation Management Association (ETMA) and Milwaukee 3rd District Ald. Michael D’Amato, the parking dynamic may improve for student- and area-residents and worsen for those commuting to UWM.

22 displaced students admitted to UWM

Twenty-two students displaced by Hurricane Katrina have enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for the fall semester, officials said.

UWM will likely admit only through the end of the week, said Beth Weckmueller, director of Enrollment Services.

FDA postpones ruling on sale of Plan B

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) decided Friday, Aug. 26, to indefinitely postpone its decision on whether or not to sell Plan B, commonly known as the morning-after pill, over the counter. FDA Commissioner Lester Crawford had promised to reach a decision on whether or not Plan B could be sold without a prescription by Sept. 1, but postponed any decision for at least another 60 days in order to allow public comment on regulations surrounding the drug’s availability to minors. The delay has caused outcries from Sens. Patty Murray, D-Wash., and Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y.
