One-stop e-mail, calendar and IM system in works
UWM evaluating software to increase accessibility

Students, faculty and staff of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee are now one step closer to a new campus-wide e-mail, calendar and instant messaging system, officials said.
The Educational Technology Fee Committee is in the process of soliciting bids from several leading software companies, including Microsoft and IBM, for a complete overhaul of the current PantherMail and PantherCal systems.

Rising tuition is increased challenge
Ashley List dropped out of college at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee after her third semester because she could no longer handle working to make ends meet while going to school.
Without financial help from her parents, List found it nearly impossible to deal with the strain of working nearly full-time to pay rent, while trying to keep up with her classes and schoolwork. She returned home to De Pere, Wis., after the fall 2004 semester.

SA looking for dedicated senators
There are 11 vacant seats on the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Student Association Senate that sit empty with no promise of filling up by the end of the semester, as senators search for people who are motivated and prepared to serve.
The full Senate is comprised of 50 students representing the schools and colleges.

UWM Post wins 5 newspaper awards
The UWM Post independent newspaper won five awards at the annual Wisconsin Newspaper Association convention Feb. 2 and 3, including two first-place finishes and a merit award for general excellence.

Fun with blowtorches
Blowtorches, picks and chisels were made available to students and faculty interested in creating ice sculptures on Wednesday, Feb. 1.
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Studio Arts and Crafts Centre sponsored an ice sculpting night from 5 to 8 p.m. last Wednesday.
