Balanced attack helps Panthers rebound

Team takes home opener from Div. II squad

Boo Davis’ 21 points and Adrian Tigert’s 15 points and 12 rebounds, along with a balanced attack helped the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men’s basketball team claim a 93-64 win against the Upper Iowa Peacocks at the U.S. Cellular Arena Monday, Nov. 21.

This marks the sixth straight home opener win for the Panthers.

Why Panthers shouldn’t panic after loss to Memphis

Horrible is the first word that popped into the heads of many fans of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men’s basketball team last Tuesday night.

That was the night when UWM marched into Memphis, Tenn., and got booted right back out by the No. 12 ranked University of Memphis Tigers, 79-52. A 27-point margin in almost any game is cause for concern, but the truth is UWM is not as bad as it looked on the floor that night.

Admirals control third period, beat Hamilton

It took nearly 53 minutes before the Admirals were able to score their first goal in their 3-1 victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Bradley Center.

Milwaukee outshot the visiting Bulldogs 41-26 and had many more scoring opportunities in the contest.

Women’s basketball beats Oakland in OT

This is where the exhibition season comes in handy. With time running out against the Wisconsin AAU team two weeks ago, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women’s basketball team gave up the lead and the game in the final seconds, with Aubrey Hampton’s jumper being blocked as time expired.

Fast forward to Friday night, when the team used that experience to stave off Oakland in overtime, 73-71, at the Klotsche Center. However, some of those exhibition jitters remained in Sunday’s game as UWM was trounced by Iowa, 82-42.

Men’s swimming and diving team notches first; women take second

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men’s swimming and diving team earned first-place honors at the Doug Coers Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 18, hosted by Ball State in Muncie, Ind., while the women finished second.

Freshman Robby Leibold led the Panthers to victory in the five-team event, winning three individual races. UWM scored 646 team points, topping Ball State’s 547 points. Leibold nabbed the Swimmer of the Meet award after placing first in the 400 individual medley and the 500 and 1650 freestyle.

Men’s soccer advances to second round of NCAA tourney

The Bradley University Braves must have done something that got to University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee junior Steve Sperl, as he scored the first goal in the Panthers’ 2-0 first-round victory in the NCAA Tournament.

The goal gave Sperl three goals against the Braves on the season.
