Audits for Big Ten Network contracts
As reported by the Capitol Times, three state lawmakers requested to see the University of Wisconsin’s athletic department contract with the Big Ten Network to explore the revenues of the contract. This came after the Nov. 3 game of Ohio State versus UW-Madison, which was broadcast on the Big Ten Network. The lawmakers cite that a public university should not have the power to limit public access to sporting events.

At least 5 dead, 15 injured in Northern Illinois University shooting

A gunman opened fire Thursday in a full lecture hall on the campus of Northern Illinois University shortly before 3 p.m. According to police, the gunman is dead. The shooting took place in Cole Hall near the King Commons, a central gathering place on the 25,000-student campus.

Aldermanic candidate wins primary from prison

Incumbent 6th District Ald. Michael McGee handily won his primary election, though he remains incarcerated. He advanced to the general election by garnering 32 percent of the vote, and will face off against Milele Coggs on Apr. 1. McGee has been held without bail since Memorial Day on allegations of bribery and buying votes in the district’s previous recall election. His court date is slated for after the election, in May.

UWM to Co-Host Great Lakes Water Compact Briefing on March 5

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee will co-host the Great Lakes Water Compact briefing at Discovery World on March 5. The pending Great Lakes Water Compact, how the compact will impact the region’s freshwater supply and the economic benefits that the compact will provide will be discussed. The program will start with a continental breakfast at 7:15 a.m. and is open to the public.
