Lake Park Synagogue will be presenting UWM Chancellor Carlos Santiago and the university a “Good Neighbor Award” on May 25 in Greene Hall. The award will be presented at the synagogue’s annual dinner that will be held after a reception and silent auction at 5:30 p.m.

One Jewish student was reportedly injured and one Muslim student was arrested in an incident in Spaights Plaza last Thursday during a protest against Jewish-sponsored events on the UWM campus. The event reportedly took a turn for the worse when Muslim students confronted Jewish students about Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians.

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden is scheduled to speak at UW-Milwaukee this Tuesday, April 27 at 11:30 a.m. Biden will be chairing a Middle Class Task Force meeting to discuss Wall Street reform and its important to middle-class families. The event is being hosted by the UWM Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business.

A new ballot system for the 2010 UW-Milwaukee student government elections will be tested this week, according to e-mail send to all students last Friday. The message, written by Meggan Dewitt of the University Student Court, said that a successful election will be completed before the end of April.

News Briefs 4-12-10

Street sweeping of designated areas on Milwaukee’s East Side will begin Friday, April 16. If a resident’s car is parked on the street while sweeping is being done, they will face a citation of $33, a tow fee of $105 and $20 per day for storage at the lot.
