Most major cities have a red light district where one can go to satisfy more base desires. In Baltimore, for example, all the strip clubs and porn shops are on a single four-block strip known locally as “The Block.” It’s practical for the perverts and keeps the kids safe. Everybody wins. Why should the Internet be any different?

Back in 2005, California passed a law banning the sale of violent video games to minors. Retailers would’ve been hit with up to a $1,000 fine per violation. At best this was an attempt to protect the children from violent and inappropriate media.

Driving is the most dangerous form of popular transportation, far more dangerous than planes or trains. There are numerous factors, but part of the explanation must be that pilots and engineers don’t text. When they do, bad things happen. In 2008, for example, an engineer failed to obey a stop sign while texting, resulting in 130 casualties.

Twitter has been on a roll lately. Since its launch in 2006, the microblogging platform has gone from nerdy curiosity to an integral medium for everyone from Obama and Oprah to grandma and Good Morning America. Twitter had 22.3 million unique visitors in March. Compare that to just 524,000 the same time just last year.

Large corporations are rarely innovative. Eruptive services and products usually come from small startups nimble enough to exploit new markets. A speed boat may not have much power or momentum but it can change course faster than an oil tanker.

Apple’s new iPad launched this past Saturday to an eager public. Is it the future? Probably. It’s not difficult to envision a world in ten years where the upper and middle class all carry some sort of all-in-one smart machine with them wherever they go for movies, books, music, internet and more.
