“Young people are the least likely to vote. If you don't vote, it’s hard to get the government to listen to your concerns” – UWM Political Science Professor Kathleen Dolan
In just 23 days, the most important day of the year for our country will here: the 2008 Presidential Election. You’ve heard this question everywhere you go lately: are you registered to vote yet? Well, time is running out to keep ignoring that question.
“Young people are the least likely to vote,” said UWM Political Science Professor Kathleen Dolan. “If you don't vote, it’s hard to get the government to listen to your concerns.” The voting registration period ends this Wednesday Oct. 15, however registering at a polling place before 8 p.m. on Nov. 4 is acceptable. If you wish to register by mail, visit www.ci.mil.wi.us/vote and download the application for voter registration. This must be filled out and sent to the City of Milwaukee Election Commission (841 N Broadway St., Milwaukee) and postmarked by Oct. 15. Those who have never voted in any kind of Wisconsin election before must provide a proof residence with the registration form. Among suitable types of proof, are a valid and current Wisconsin Driver’s License and a University identification card, such as a Panther Card. To see other acceptable forms, visit the site above.
You may also register in person at various locations including any Milwaukee Public Library or the Election Commission office. This again must be done before Oct. 15. Registering on Nov. 4 is possible too.
Simply, go to your polling place (the closest for the UWM community is located in Sandburg Residence Hall in Flicks) and show proof that you have resided at your present location for at least 10 ten days prior to the election.
Absentee voting is another possibility. Simply send a request for an absentee ballot to your local clerk’s office. Requests must be sent by Oct. 30 and the absentee ballot itself has to be returned by Election Day (Nov. 4).
Dolan believes that it’s important for college students to start voting now. “Once people start voting, they are likely to vote most of the time for all of their lives”, she said. “Voting is a good habit to start early.”

I'll register to vote if that young lass in the photo will register my member in her ballot box!

"Voting is a good habit to start early." So is saving money, donating to the Republican Party, and domineering your spouse...
