The UWM Post wants you
Become a writer for the Post’s University Housing section
By Michelle Sauer
A writer simply needs to bring his or her ideas and talents, great or small, to the table.
Looking for a new way to enhance your college experience?
The UWM Post is always in search of writers in various areas of focus. One of the newest sections introduced just last year to the campus newspaper is the very one you are currently reading, the University Housing (UH) section.
The UH section offers an almost limitless range of topics and areas of interest to be written about. It practically takes every other section of the Post, adds in the residence hall audience, and becomes what each writer makes it.
For those with an interest in writing, not only could it be the scratch for that itch you have to write, but it could also help fill up that clip portfolio that you’ll need in pursuing a career in the writing field. Keep in mind that no experience is bad experience.
Concerned about adding one more commitment to your list of responsibilities as a student? It’s important to note that hours spent in the office editing work and making pieces copy-desk ready is not the job of the writer. That’s what the editor is for. A writer simply needs to bring his or her ideas and talents, great or small, to the table.
A writer on staff is only committed to completing a single article per week. In addition, all staff writers attend a brief meeting once a week with the section editor and other writers. The pressure is minimal.
Deadlines for writing are simple: e-mail a copy of the completed article to your UH editor by noon each Wednesday.
Attend one meeting a week, write on article a week, meet one deadline a week, and get to explore a wide range of topics from week to week – it all sounds pretty ideal doesn’t it?
Take the time to consider writing for the UWM Post’s UH section. It’s a great, low-pressure way not only to write, but to gain experience and meet new people as well. Who said working can’t be fun?
To apply or ask questions, come to the UWM Post office on the ground floor of the Union. Or, feel free to directly contact the UH editor, Michelle Sauer, by e-mail at masauer@uwm.edu.
