SA office renovations cost $8,183.50
Re-painted walls painted just two years ago

Renovations performed on the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee Student Association (SA) office during the summer cost $8,183.50, according to records obtained by The UWM Post.
B&D Contractors, the company contracted by UWM, billed the Union for two weeks of labor at $61.53 per hour. Contractor workers spent 62.5 hours the first week, totaling $3,845.63, and 70.5 hours for the second week, totaling $4,337.87.
“We refinished several doors and painted two rooms,” said Tom Viel, Assistant Director of UWM Union Operations.
SA Vice President Tommy Hughes gave The Post a tour of the renovated office, including the refinished doors and the repainted walls. Hughes said the office walls, which were painted light yellow two years ago, were an unpleasant color.
“We wanted a color that can last 10 years, so we went with the off-white,” said Hughes.
Hughes also said the doors were in poor condition, noting that the finish had been degraded because tape peeling off the finish. However, that problem seems to be solved.
“We’re not allowing people to tape things to doors either,” said Hughes.
The renovations in the SA office were paid for through the Union operating budget, not SA funds. According to Viel, the Union operating budget is financed through segregated fees, space rental fees, program/event revenue and interested earnings.
Student organizations wishing to make renovations to their office must submit requests to Union Director Scott Gore, Assistant Union Director Tom Viel or to the Union Policy Board. The requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
