Adjunct professor dies from car crash

Susan Quandt, 54, an adjunct professor in the Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business, died early this morning as a result of an automobile accident.
According to a news release from the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Department, Quandt, traveling in the Town of Belgium, failed to negotiate a right hand curve and veered off the roadway, entered a farm field and struck a tree.
Quandt was found unconscious upon the arrival of Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Department deputies. Then, according to the news release, the engine compartment of the vehicle suddenly burst into flames. Deputies had to break the passenger window to remove Quandt from the vehicle.
Quandt was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital – Ozaukee and then transferred to Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Wauwatosa, where she died at 1:11 a.m.
An autopsy was scheduled for today and the accident remains under investigation.
Quandt was a former business executive who in 2006 released a book about succeeding in the business world. For the book, she interviewed executives from companies like Motorola, Qwest and Lucent Technologies. Quandt also was a guest of WUWM’s Lake Effect show in March 2007 and appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” this past June.
UWM Vice Chancellor for University Relations Tom Luljak did not immediately return calls seeking comment on behalf of UWM.
