University Student Court to hear SHAC, SA case
Decision expected to be made in coming weeks

“The way I’ve been acting is with the consent of the executive board” – Nikki Senrick, SHAC President
The UW-Milwaukee University Student Court (USC) is expected to hear a case filed by Student Housing Administration Council (SHAC) President Nikki Senrick against Student Association (SA) President Tyler Draheim in the coming weeks, however a hearing date has not yet been set.
SA officials, speaking on conditions of anonymity in light of the pending case, said they believe Senrick is acting on her own without consulting the SHAC Senate.
The last four SHAC meetings this year failed to meet quorum. Last Friday, the Post asked SA officials if Senrick should be able to act on her own because she can’t get the SHAC Senate to pass an official stance on the matter. They said that not being able to hold meetings due to an absence of quorum is a reflection of SHAC’s leadership.
But Senrick told the Post she is acting with the consent of the SHAC executive board.
“It’s difficult to move along with business without an overall consent from the Senate,” said Senrick. “The way I’ve been acting is with the consent of the executive board.”
In most votes regarding an official position on the issue, SHAC’s executive board has voted 3-2 in favor of remaining an independent governing body, said Senrick.
Regarding potential abuse of SA’s power over SHAC, Senrick said she believes current SA officials are trustworthy but isn’t sure how future SA leaders would interpret the legislation.
“They’re definitely good people now, but who’s to say there couldn’t be another Russ Rueden a year or two down the road,” said Senrick, referring to the former SA President who plead guilty to embezzlement charges.
Last week, the Student Association filed a response to SHAC’s suit in student court. To read the response, see the PDF here.
