“On Public Health” series continues Tuesday
The next lecture featured in UW-Milwaukee’s “On Public Health” series will focus on “Building Partnerships for Healthful Neighborhoods.” The presentation will be held this Tuesday Nov. 18 in the Union room 250 from noon to 1 p.m. Future “On Public Health” discussions are scheduled for Dec. 3 and Dec. 16.
Norovirus hits UW-Madison dorm
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that 45 students from UW-Madison have reported similar symptoms of illness since Nov. 7. All of the students live in the same residence hall building, Sellery Hall. According to the report, over 1,000 students live in the building but there are no plans to close it.
Photos of new planets released
Science Express, an American Association for the Advacement of Science journal, released photos taken by NASA and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory of three new planets. The photos are the first of planets outside our solar system. According to a CNN report, the photo-taking techniques used “can only aid our efforts in one day finding an Earth-like planet”.
Taylor named Poet Laureate
Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle named Marilyn Taylor as the new Poet Laureate for the state on Friday Nov. 14. Taylor received her Ph. D. from UWM. She has worked at UWM as both an associate lecturer and an adjunct professor. Taylor has written six books.
Ninth Annual D.E.S. Bake, Book and Media Sale
The UWM Department of Enrollment Services will host its ninth annual bake sale this Thursday Nov. 20. The event, also featuring books and media for sale, will be held in the Bolton Hall Breezeway from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. All proceeds benefit the Hunger Relief Fund of Wisconsin.
