McGee Sentenced to 6 ½ Years in Prison
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that former Milwaukee Alderman Michael McGee was sentenced to 6 ½ years in prison on Tuesday. McGee was sentenced after being convicted of using his power over liquor licenses in Milwaukee to shake down business owners for cash, food and cell phones. He was also ordered to pay $107,433 in restitution.
“We The Living” comes to Gasthaus this week
“We The Living,” a band compared to acts such as, Coldplay or Kings of Leon originally touring out of Madison has played in over 400 shows to a nation-wide audience. The band will be performing songs from their album, “Heights Of The Heavens” along with new songs from the album “Depths Of The Earth,” set to release mid-December. The band will be playing at the Gasthaus this Thursday, November 6, at 8 p.m.
Veterans for Peace Event to be held
The Milwaukee Veterans for Peace Chapter 102 will host a Veteran’s Day event on Saturday morning Nov. 8 at 10 in front of the Milwaukee City Hall (200 E. Wells St.). The group was banned from the city’s Veteran’s Day parade by the Parade Committee because of their political name. Veterans will share their experiences and will collect donations from the crowd for homeless veterans after the program.
Governor Doyle Honored for Commitment to Clean Energy
Governor Jim Doyle received the 2009 Inspiring Efficiency Leadership Award given by the the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA). The reward is a result of an individual or organization who strongly pursues energy efficiency in their city, state or community. Gov. Doyle will be honored with other winners at the Inspiring Efficiency Awards Dinner and Gala on Jan. 8, 2009. This event is part of MEEA’s Midwest Energy Solutions Conference happening Jan. 7-9 in Chicago.
