Bettering the beach
Bradford Beach undergoes changes

“We are privileged to have such a beautiful natural resource right in our backyard” – Todd Gawronski, G1, Inc. President
The Milwaukee County Parks Department and the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department, with the help of some generous donations, have teamed up with the new management of the Bradford Beach House to improve its safety, sanitation and recreation.
Currently, G1, Inc. is the tenant of the beach house and the company partners with the Hi-Hat Group and X-Ray Marketing performing daily operations and planning special events at the beach.
According to the president of G1, Inc., Todd Gawronski, Bradford Beach boasts several new programs designed to give Milwaukee residents a quality beach experience.
“There have been several cooperative programs such as the return of the lifeguards, funded solely by a private citizen donation by Mr. Sheldon Lubar,” Gawronski says.
In addition, the cleanliness factor of the beach was also addressed by two new programs. First, Milwaukee County Parks received a $500,000 donation from Miller Brewing Company in June, with hopes of making Bradford Beach eligible for Blue Wave Beach certification. The Blue Wave program is conducted by the Clean Beaches Council, which recognizes beaches for their superior sanitation. Only one other beach in Wisconsin holds the award. Gawronski added that the Border Collie program has also been enacted. The dogs act to keep sea gulls off the shore, preventing e-coli from developing.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department has also taken special measures to protect beach-goers by patrolling the beaches during peak times.
Now that cleanliness and safety are covered, it’s time to have some fun, right? Gawronski and his partners agree. They’ve put together numerous new activities like beach volleyball tournaments and sand castle competitions to bring more Milwaukeeans out to the sand.
The beach house is fully equipped for the not so loaded college student with all of the free activities offered. Soccer balls and goals, volleyballs and baggo boards are free of charge to rent, just bring a photo ID with and the beach volleyball courts are on a first come, first served basis.
Coming Sept. 20 is the Sands and Bands Beach Party, featuring a UWM sand castle competition, live music and a volleyball tournament. Then there’s Octoberfest on Oct. 4. More information on these events can be found at www.bradfordbeachjam.com.
“We are privileged to have such a beautiful natural resource right in our backyard,” Gawronski says.” “Having a beach in your community is some of the most sought-after real estate you will find anywhere.”
