“Syndromes and a Century” is a film in two parts: the first set in Thailand’s past and a tale of a female doctor; the second a story about a male doctor in present times. Their stories, inspired by Weerasethakul’s parents, intertwine at points, and echo at others, as the two doctors, Dr Toey and Dr. Nohng fall in love.

“4 Elements,” dir. Jiska Rickels
Friday, Oct. 26. 9 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 27. 7 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 28. 5pm.
Free screening.

Much like “Syndromes,” this documentary is broken up in parts, or chapters; in this case four, representing the four essential elements: fire, water, earth and air. Rickels follows Siberian forest firefighters, Chinese fisherman on the Bejing Sea, German coal mine workers, and finally Russian astronauts preparing for launch. The film explores the intrinsic relationship between man and the natural world.
