The Senate Appropriations Committee’s monthly small grants meeting ended with a debate as to how strictly they want to enforce the deadline rules.

The issue came up when a newly formed student organization, Moot Court Club, missed its deadline for requested funding for traveling. The SAC decided because the club was just recognized earlier in the meeting that the eight days late would be acceptable in a 3-2 vote.

The committee decided that they will hear cases that are eight days late or less to remain viewpoint neutral. The bylaw states that there needs to be an eight week deadline to turn in the proper paperwork in requesting funding for events and travel.

The SAC approved about $8,000 for student organizations funding.

The SAC’s reason to limit the small grants meeting to once a month is to keep the spending lowered. The money request usually fell under traveling, publicity or printing costs.

The new groups approved were: Eastbrook International Student Ministry, Athletes in Action, Cheese Club, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Club, Car and Motorcycle Club, Dancers Anonymous, Pre-Student, Osteopathic Medical Association at UWM, Mediation Club, and Mock Trial Club. Also the Bowling Club and the Pagan Student Fellowship have been reinstated.

An announcement was made in regards to account transfers in student groups, which is money from old accounts cannot be transferred unless first approved by the SAC.
