Police report of the week
A highly intoxicated male student was found in the Sandburg Resident Hall’s North Tower stairway between the third and fourth floor around 10:50 p.m. Oct.7.
When police asked for his ID, he swore at them and pulled out a condom instead. He then proceeded to stick the wrapped condom into his mouth and attempted to eat it, but ended up spitting out the actual condom and eating just the wrapper. He told police he did drink some Bacardi earlier that evening but not that much. Regardless of the man’s claim, the police brought him into the UWM police station and held him there until he sobered up.
A woman’s Trek bicycle valued at $200 with a cable lock was reported stolen Oct.6 from the bike rack outside Golda Meir Library.
A men’s Trek bicycle was last seen locked outside the Architecture and Urban Planning Building 5 p.m. Oct.7. When the owner returned at 8:45 p.m. the $400 bicycle was missing along with its combination lock.
UWM police suspect that a marble-sized object was thrown at one of their squad cars Oct.5. The officer heard a loud bang outside the car while driving down the 2600 block of North Maryland Avenue. When the officer finally pulled over a couple blocks later, there was a marble-sized dent in the passenger door.
A 23-year-old man was found sleeping in Lapham Hall 5:53 a.m. on Oct.5. The man was warned not to sleep in campus buildings and released.
Three juveniles skateboarding on the east side of Golda Meir Library by the fountain were warned around 3:34 p.m. Oct. 5 about skateboarding on campus property. Campus police gave them each warning letters and proceeded to get in contact with their parents.
A woman crossing the street at the corner of East Hartford Avenue and North Maryland Avenue was victim of a hit-and-run Oct.6 at 8:29 a.m. The woman was heading north across Hartford when a pink two-door car struck her left leg and knocked her over. The driver said she would call 911 then left. The victim was sent to Columbia St. Mary’s emergency room.
Sandburg Residence Hall staff were sent to North Tower to investigate a noise complaint the night Oct.7. When they arrived at the room, they found an airsoft gun, paintball gun and several empty liquor bottles. The staff laid out the two guns on a table and waited for police to arrive. Police then asked the suspects if they had any more weapons, which led the suspects to remove three folding knives and a bong from a drawer. A 19-year-old student confessed to owning the knives and was issued a $491 citation.
An $800 woman’s Electra road bike was reported stolen from Kenilworth Square around noon Oct.8. The woman said she last saw the bike four days earlier, but doesn’t know exactly when it was stolen.
A woman called police around 8:30 p.m. Oct. 8 to report two suspicious men walking near the corner of North Downer Avenue and East Locust Street. The woman said she was riding her bike home from the Klotsche Center when two men pulled up their hooded sweatshirts and began walking towards her. She said she swerved around them, and they yelled after her, “You are lucky.”
A police officer stopped to talk to two suspicious men around 1:10 a.m. Oct.9 after he observed the two walk toward each other and how one turned around and began following the other. After stopping the two on the corner of East Kenwood Boulevard and North Oakland Avenue, the officer discovered one of them had a bag of marijuana and a warrant out for his arrest. He was promptly arrested and brought into custody.
Video equipment valued at $2,300 was reported stolen from the Fine Arts Department Oct.9. The $300 channel mixer and $2,000 digital videocassette recorder were taken between Sept.26 and Oct.1, but they were not reported missing immediately because people are allowed to borrow equipment. The Department is currently working to narrow down a list of more than 100 suspects, who have access to the equipment.
A Nintendo system and game were reported stolen from a room on the 13th floor of the Sandburg East Tower on Oct.11. The resident said while he was in the shower he heard someone enter the suite and when he got out the system, game and his ID were missing.
Twenty-five people under 21 were cited for underage drinking at 11:53 p.m. Oct.11 on the 2900 block of East Newhall Avenue. Four people received second offense citations of $378.50, one got a fourth citation of $756.50, and the others received citations for $252.50. An arrest warrant was out for one of the individuals, who was then taken into custody.
