I even forget that I’m gay sometimes, because I don’t believe I need to label my personal life.

You’re gay. You think about sex every 10 seconds and you hope for that wonderful relationship like everyone else. Why do you need to wear a rainbow flag?

For some people, being gay is their life. Every aspect of their life and behavior revolves around the concept of being gay. For others, being gay is the most fearful aspect of their life and stabs them in their heart any time they hear the word “gay”. For people like me, being gay is a joke.

When I say that being gay is a joke, I really mean that I don’t care. There are people that believe they are “special” or “exceptional” from everyone else since they are attracted to the same sex. Unless you have been mugged, abused, shoved to the wall, thrown in a trash bin, or kicked out the door by your guardians, then don’t expect me treat you differently just because you’re gay.

As a gay person myself, I don’t like to think of myself as being gay. I even forget that I’m gay sometimes, because I don’t believe I need to label my personal life. What I do in bed with my partner isn’t called gay, it’s called sex.

There are many people out there obsessed with their sexual orientation and expressing their pride. Straight people don’t passionately promote their sexual orientation, why should we?

Oct. 11 was “National Coming Out Day.” Therefore, in their respect, coming out of the closet is great; it’s awesome if you can come to terms with yourself, accept who you are, and admit you’re gay. After you’ve admitted who you are, get over it. Your sexual orientation should not dominate your life.

If your life is problematic due to your sexual orientation, go to the LGBT Center here on campus. They are an excellent host for giving you the safety, counsel and company you need. However, if you’re just a normal person who happens to be attracted to the same sex, then be a normal person.
