“I love being a part of this paper, it's my baby,” said The Leader’s Arts and Entertainment Editor Carolyn Umfress

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s arts and entertainment newspaper, The Leader, will only be found online this semester after failing to file paperwork in time for the spring large grant meeting.

The Senate Appropriations Committee did not allow any organization who filed late for the paperwork last semester to present at the large grant meeting. The Black Student Union also could not get the large grant.

The current SAC chair Tyler Draheim says that The Leader has not come forth to obtain any small grant loans since spring. The next time the large grants are given out is Nov. 3 and 4 with the requests for the grants due Oct. 19.

People who are involved with The Leader are trying to remain optimistic on the publication.

“I was somewhat disappointed but glad at the same time that our publication was going to continue. I love being a part of this paper, it's my baby,” said arts and entertainment editor Carolyn Umfress.

The publication also is short on staff writers this semester since many student writers graduated last semester. The editors are in the recruiting process to gain more regular writers.

The Leader plans on printing again next semester when they have more funds available.
