While I am all for making sure that our unemployed and homeless get the medical attention they deserve, I am not particularly happy that my tax dollars would go to pay for the healthcare for illegal immigrants that reside in Wisconsin.

Well my friends, the Wisconsin (predominantly Democratic) state senators have done it again. OK, almost again. Here they go ready to jack up taxes some more and set up a “new and improved” way for everyone in the state to receive “good, quality healthcare.”

Back in June the state senators passed a radical new healthcare plan for Wisconsin. Why are we just hearing about it now, you might ask?

Well, that would have to do with the stalled-out budget that I might have mentioned before in this paper. Now that there are agreements and compromises being made in terms of budgetary spending, this new healthcare plan the Democrats have brewed up is coming more into focus.

At last check, Gov. Doyle has yet to endorse this radical new plan, and I can only hope that he has the common sense not to endorse it at all in the future.

So what is all the hubbub about? The new healthcare plan is called “Healthy Wisconsin,” and it has been considered the “boldest and most comprehensive healthcare reform in any state.” Basically, what they are trying to create is a state-run socialized form of medical care that we all get to pay for. Let's look at that a bit.

State run: So now the state government might have a say in what kind of medical treatment you may be allowed to receive.

Socialized medical care: Yeah, because it is working so well in Canada. Sure they have cheap drugs, but who wants to wait four weeks to have your about-to-rupture appendix taken out? Not me.

That we all get to pay for: Let's change that to everyone who is working a tax-paying job gets to pay for. The overall estimate is that it will raise the taxes paid by each worker by roughly $500 a month.

Now, I might not be a traditional student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, but I know positively that $500 more a month is more than I am willing to spend for generalized medical care for my family and me. My health insurance through my employer is high enough already.

But my biggest beef with this is that while we will all receive the same “standardized” medical attention, everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) will be allowed to receive the same medical benefits.

While I am all for making sure that our unemployed and homeless get the medical attention they deserve, I am not particularly happy that my tax dollars would go to pay for the healthcare of illegal immigrants whom reside in Wisconsin.

Do you know what the icing on this cake is? The illegal immigrants receiving their free health care do not even need to live in Wisconsin to receive the benefit!

I’m not sure exactly how it all works out, but the Democrats have basically designed a plan that paints a gigantic bullseye on Wisconsin. If people have had concerns over the growing immigration issue, it might just start becoming an even bigger problem in the near future.

I am not simply focusing on the growing number of illegal Mexicans entering the country on a daily basis; it is fairly common knowledge that there is a growing illegal Hmong population in both Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Now, during the budget planning, the Republican state assembly saw how ridiculous this plan was and voted whole-heartedly against it. Thankfully, Doyle has found some common sense and not yet endorsed this bill.

I am all for everyone being able to receive the best health care available, but at what cost? Is this really for the common good?

It has been said that the only constant in this world is change. I just hope this change being planned never comes to see the light of day.
