In previous weeks I described the styles and trends of the season, so I figured with the ushering in of cool weather, it might be worthwhile to highlight stores and boutiques in the area where all your winter essentials are located.

  1. Funky winter coat
Where: Lela boutique on Broadway in the Third Ward.

    Brand: Tulle.

Qualities: The knee length coat has a high collar to protect you from the wind, as well as puffed out sleeves and a ruffle at the bottom. Tulle is a great brand that specializes in high style at an affordable cost.
    Price: $115

  2. Crazy print scarf
    Where: H&M at Bayshore
    Brand: H&M.

Qualities: Scarves are one of the best winter accessories to jazz up any outfit. Winter coats can get boring after six months, so adding a bold print will brighten up your outfit, as well as give you a mini-boost of happiness when everything else around you is grey.

    Price: $12.90

  3. Practical winter boots

Where: Shoo on Broadway in the Third Ward
    Brand: John Fluva
Qualities: Winter, arguably the gloomiest time of the year, can be brightened up with a fun winter boot. This is a great winter boot because of the rubber sole and mid-size heel. The detailing of two large grommets on each side with a ribbon tied into a bow at the back also adds a fun flair.

    Price: $389

  4. Sassy jeans
Where: Stephanie Horne on Broadway in the Third Ward

    Brand: Rich & Skinny
Qualities: One of the main trends of the season is the powerful woman. So why not combine a wardrobe staple with one of this season’s trends? This black pinstriped skinny jean is perfect for tucking into boots or wearing with a fun heel. Jeans are always warmer than dress pants, so why not get the best of both worlds?

    Price: $199

  5. Chunky layerable sweater
Where: Ma Jolie on Downer or at Bayshore
    Brand: Tulle

Qualities: This is one of those classic, “easy” pieces which can be worn over and over again, in so many different ways. With three-quarter length slightly flared sleeves and a creamy color, this sweater is perfect for layering over a white dress shirt, long sleeve T or over your favorite dress.

    Price: $63

  6. Cozy dress
    Where: H&M at Bayshore
    Brand: H&M

Qualities: Like I have been saying all along dresses, dresses, dresses. Winter should be about cozying up to a fire and snowball fights, and we all know that everything is more fun in a dress. This plaid number practically screams winter from the neutral and red color scheme to the cute pockets and pleating. It is also a roomy dress, perfect for layering!

    Price: $49

  7. Warm over the knee socks
Where: Lela boutique on Broadway in the Third Ward

    Brand: Lisa B

Qualities: Whether you wear pants, dress or skirt, an extra layer never hurt anyone. These fun stockings come in a variety of colors to help you match every outfit. Wear them over stockings for an uber trendy look or by themselves with cute heel. Either way, you will be just that much warmer, and oh so much more styling.
    Price: $

  8. Booties
Where: Red Heel on Water Street

    Brand: Me too

Qualities: This fun new trend is one that will carry you all the way through winter. By keeping you feet enclosed, it is warmer than a regular heel. This pair has a mid-size heel for added comfort. The cute fold over flap adds some interesting detail to set them apart. Price: $92

  9. Patent leather power bag.
    Where: Forever 21 at Bayshore

    Brand: Forever 21

Qualities: Patent leather is another hot trend that is perfect for winter. It already comes water proofed, and adds a powerful statement to any look because not everyone feels comfortable wearing patent leather. This large, buckled bag will carry everything from your books to an extra sweater.
    Price: $24.80

  10. Black wide leg pants
    Where: Macy’s at Mayfair

    Brand: 7 for all mankind

Qualities: A well-known benefit of wide leg jeans is that they enhance any body type. By creating a wide space near your feet, it redirects the eye from your mid section, promoting a slimming effect.
Normally I’m not a fan of velvet, but I would bend the rule on these pants. Cut like jeans, they make a great alternative for everyday wear. This is a great solution to dress pants because while they are a little dressier than jeans, they still have a casual feel about them.
    Price: $187
