Does age really matter? I’m sure you’ve heard the question a million times or have even asked yourself that question many times over. Should age matter?

When I was seven, my brother, four years older than me, and his friends seemed incredibly old. When I was 15, I developed a slight crush on a 22-year-old, but decided that seven years was a bit too big of a difference.

Now that I’m 20 I think the cutoff line is around 30 for prospective boyfriends.

There are two important points to mull over when considering age differences in regards to relationships.

First is the number of years between the couple; second is what their actual ages are.

The tolerance for age difference is built up as the individuals get older and society tends to be more accepting of such age differences once the people involved both reach adulthood.

When one or both of the “relationshipees” are adolescents, the rules of the game change. A 22-year-old with a 15-year-old is simply frowned upon and is undeniably considered jailbait. This relationship, with a difference of seven years, is illegal. But a relationship between those same two people five years down the road is fair game.

The recent trend has been older women with younger men. The celebrity relationships set the pace with past couple Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake and present couple Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher.

There are many reasons why older women are after the younger men lately. Younger men are energetic and fun. Older women are classy, sophisticated and sexy.

According to BBC news in 1998, 26 percent of women are dating and marrying younger men.

Since that time this number has continued to increase. Women are coming into social power and going after what they want.

With the advancements in medicine, women are looking younger longer and in today’s world, many women are college-bound, career-oriented and downright desirable at their older, established age.

What man could resist all of that?

When I was in high school, an older female with a younger male simply didn’t happen. But now we’re all in the college phase of our lives, and in this phase the situation is more common, more accepted and even more desirable. So ladies, embrace our present power and go out and find yourself a hot, younger guy. Enjoy.
