A male student was cited for drug paraphernalia at 2:31 p.m. Sept. 9 after university police received a report of smoke coming out of a window on the 12th floor of Sandburg Hall’s West Tower. When police arrived at the suite, they said it smelled like a combination of burnt popcorn and marijuana. They knocked on the first door and a man with blood shot eyes and shaky legs opened the door, but he was not found to have any drug substances in his room. The young man then pointed the police to another room in the suite. After police knocked on that door, the resident said they did not have any drug paraphernalia because the police had been there last week to confiscate it. The police performed a search of the room and confirmed there were no drugs. They then went the third room in the suite where the resident admitted having pipe. He then recovered a multi-color pipe, with a brown type substance still in the bowl, from his mini fridge. The man was given a $315 citation for drug paraphernalia.
University police were sent to the Union Bookstore Sept. 10 after a young man was caught stealing a $2 writing pamphlet. Police said the student was cooperative and, after taking him to the station for interrogation, he was released without a citation.
A backpack was stolen from the Union Bookstore’s entrance area around 9:20 a.m. Sept. 10. The black UWM bag reportedly contained the student’s driver’s license, student ID card, a class pamphlet and $4.
A $249 iPod was reported stolen from the Union Bookstore’s basement on Sept.11. The bookstore employee, who reported the theft, said it likely occurred between 3:40 p.m. Sept. 10 and 8 a.m. Sept.11.
A book was stolen off of a bench near the Engineering and Mathematical Sciences building on Sept.11. The student who reported the crime said he accidentally left his calculus book on a bench for 10 minutes. When he realized it was gone and returned, the book valued at $127 was gone.
A bike valued around $500 was reported stolen Sept. 12 from the bike rack outside Sandburg Hall’s south tower. The bike, which was attached with a cord lock, was last seen around 3 p.m. Sept.10 and discovered missing around noon Sept.12.
Police were sent up to the 19th floor of Sandburg Hall’s north tower to investigate a complaint about a suspicious smell. After checking out the floor, the police reported no suspicious activity and left without citation.
A young woman was found passed out at 3 a.m. Sept.13 in the 11th floor lounge of Sandburg Hall’s West Tower. When police were finally able to wake her, she said she went into the lounge around 11 p.m. and fell asleep. A preliminary breathalyzer revealed a .150 blood alcohol content. But, due to the potential medical emergency of the matter, she was released without citation.
A suspicious person was reported watching students from a car around 10:20 a.m. Sept.13. Police told the man in a black Mercedes to leave the area.
Three books were reported missing Sept.13 from Bolton Hall’s room 752 and 746. The books totaled approximately $246.
Eleven underage drinking tickets were issued soon after midnight Sept.14 on the 3200 block of N. Oakland Avenue. Ten people received $250 tickets, and one received a 3rd offense ticket for $504.50.
A man was issued an underage drinking ticket at 1:20 a.m. Sept.14 on the 3400 block of N. Cramer Street. He blew .150 into a preliminary breathalyzer and was issued a $250 ticket.
