Favors usually fall towards the bottom of the list, but they can be a really fun way to convey your personality and provide a small thank you to all of your guests.

June is approaching and everyone knows what that means…the start of the summer wedding season! Hopefully you’ve been planning ahead in between pop quizzes and working your two part-time jobs. But if you’re running a bit behind, maybe you have a few loose ends to deal with – you know, picking rice or bubbles, scheduling your final dress fitting or deciding who your groom will be.

Favors usually fall towards the bottom of the list, but they can be a really fun way to convey your personality and provide a small thank you to all of your guests. Here are a few favor ideas that are not only fun to make, but relatively simple as well.

Container

Clay pot For a green wedding, stuff a clay pot with flower seed packets. Not only is this a practical gift, it is also inexpensive. For an added touch, include a pot poke and tie a sheer wide ribbon around the pot.

*Wine tube * While fairly restrictive in determining what your favor will be, decorative wine tubes are sophisticated and an easy way to go. Wine is a fairly foolproof choice, but consider providing some sparkling grape juice for underage or abstaining guests.

To add a personal touch, make a wine charm using some of your favorite beads. This also provides a great opportunity to support Wisconsin wineries, such as the Door Peninsula Winery.

Tin pails These can be purchased plain for a country wedding or painted, which could really go with any wedding theme or color palate. Use cellophane to wrap the treats, and then use a ribbon in a matching color to decorate the handle.

Chinese take out boxes Not only are these cute and available in a myriad of shades, they also provide more room for the filling than the standard favor box. These work well for a modern elegance or Asian themed celebration.

To add visual interest, buy a Chinese calligraphy stamp and mark each box. Secure the box by tying a thin ribbon in a bow around the wire handles.

Depending on your container, there may be certain restrictions on the content. Many people choose to go with edibles, such as coated almonds, chocolates or gourmet cookies. These are your best options, but also consider a small decorative frame, candle or spa products in neutral scents.

At the end of the day, favors should be fun. Remember your wedding is all about you and your beloved expressing yourself – not about impressing people or how much money you spend.
