“*UWM took a bold step with the development of RiverView Residence Hall.*”
- Mark Brickman, UWM Real Estate Foundation president

On April 11 the Milwaukee Business Journal named the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s RiverView residence hall the Best Public/Private Partnership in the city. Each year the Business Journal awards this honor to an institution as part of their Real Estate Awards series.

Thus RiverView facility has been fast gaining more widespread recognition in the last few months. Located on North Commerce Street, RiverView opened its doors for UWM students at the start of the spring 2008 semester and has since received much praise for being a state-of-the-art residence hall, like no other on University of Wisconsin campuses.

But, UWM just happens to be familiar with this honor, as this is the second year in a row that UWM has received the Best Public/Private Partnership award. In 2007, Kenilworth Square, university housing for upperclassmen and graduate students, was recognized with the very same honor.

According to Mark Kass, Business Journal editor, the projects were reviewed by their “impact on the community and whether it was financially successful.”

RiverView is the first product of the UWM Real Estate Foundation (UWMREF), an organization founded in 2005. The Foundation’s mission, according to their Web site, is “to develop and hold real estate for the benefit of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.”

Mark Brickman, president the foundation, says that “UWM took a bold step with the development of RiverView Residence Hall.”

UWM, along with several other organizations, partnered with UWMREF in an effort to complete the construction of RiverView. Brickman was throughly impressed with the amount of partners RiverView received.

“During my many years in the real estate industry, I have never seen a single public-private partnership with so many different levels of participation,” Brickman stated.

RiverView Residence Hall definitely has a bright future. It is no doubt that many future UWM freshmen will inhabit the beautiful facility and take advantage of all it has to offer, which now includes an award-winning reputation.
