Taking charge against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women’s tennis team on Wednesday afternoon was the University of Illinois at Chicago, which posted a 7-0 victory over the Panthers at the Paley Tennis Center.

After claiming the last 11 league titles, UIC (11-5, 5-0 Horizon) dominated over the Panthers (9-10, 3-3), winning three doubles matches and six singles matches.

“UIC is arguably the best team in the league this year,” said head coach Matt McCaskill. “Historically, they have not lost a match in the Horizon League, 99 and counting.”

In the No. 4 singles, Jenna Felsher went 6-3 both times and Lauren Fenley dropped the No. 6 spot with 6-4 and 6-0.

Even though the Panthers have been in somewhat of a slump, they still have a chance at finishing in fifth in the Horizon League standings.

“There are 9 teams in the league,” said McCaskill. “I would like to finish top 5 we need to split at a minimum to achieve this.”

With the tournament quickly approaching McCaskill has high hopes.

“We need to bring our best game start to finish against those top teams if we want to have a chance to beat them,” said McCaskill. “We have made some huge strides in the last two years. For years, UWM always finished last in the Horizon League...5th or 6th place is an improvement, but I want more… the top 4.”

The Horizon League tournament starts on Friday, April 25 in Indianapolis, Ind.
