Independent Elections Comissioner Dan Bahr and UWM Union officials denied a UWM Post cameraman access to the election area. Yesterday, a TV news crew from PantherVision was allowed to videotape the elections.

PantherVision members have reported today that they have been denied access to the polling station in Sandburg Hall.

Stay with the UWM Post and other campus media outlets on this developing story.

Wow, let me guess...was that JONATHAN ANDERSON acting like a third world press reporter???

Another observer on Apr 19, 2008 at 10:41 AM:

Wow, let me guess...was that DANIEL BAHR acting like a third world dictator???

Honestly... removing all of the actual names from the ballot, forcefully tearing pieces of paper from voters' hands and denying multiple campus media outlets access to a designated public forum where public business is being conducted.

Wait, where have I heard of things like this going on before? OH YEAH... Eastern Europe and South America.

But it's all so shocking! A member (oops! I mean former member... haha) of SUFC trampling first amendment rights?! Not in a million years... or at least not in a few weeks.

The electoral contest must be stacked to prevent a communist overthrow of the fascists. Just look at the Cuban example!

PantherVision on Apr 20, 2008 at 11:30 AM:

This whole student election press thing is ridiculous. But I want to set one thing straight... I was one of the reporters from PantherVision who was told to leave the public area of the dorms while filming. It also happened in the Union on the 17th, but I was not physically escorted until being in the dorms. We are getting scrutinized just as much as the Post and I think the student media as a whole needs to ban together to fight this.

I know our first amendment right was violated, and this isn't over!

the Post and PantherVision had every single right to film the elections which were held in a public area.

Note to Bahr on Apr 20, 2008 at 11:32 AM:

Commish Bahr, you should be proud of yourself for a job well done. You are the lone hero that was able to single-handedly wipe out the opposition while the other hand was busy ripping paper from voters hands. Didn't you step down from your SUFC senator position just in time to take the commish job? We are sooooo lucky that you were able to step up when you did. Without you we would be stuck with a SA lacking experience in taking vacations on the students' funds. Maybe SUFC can give you a raise for a job well done. I only wish the cameras could have been there to witness your historical moment!
